Senna Leaf Extract belongs to a large genus of flowering plants found throughout the tropics, commonly used species being Cassia acutifolio (Alexandrian senna) and C. angustifolio (Indian or Tinnevelly senna). Extracts of the leaves, flowers and fruit of senna have been used for centuries in folk medicine as a laxative and stimulant. Function:

-The active ingredient in Senna Leaf Extract  is called sensenoside.
-Sennoside molecules are converted by microorganisms into another substance, anthrone rheinate, which has beneficial effects in stimulating colonic activity (accelerating intestinal peristalsis and improving digestion) and increasing fluid secretion. Sennoside can be prepared into enema or suppository or mixed with stool softener or lump fiber laxative to form a combined laxative.
