Wogonin Powder

Short Description:

Wogonin is an O-methylated flavonoid, a flavonoid compound found in Scutellaria baicalensis.Wogonin was first isolated and identified from Scutellaria baicalensis in 1930. It can be found in different parts of Scutellaria baicalensis, such as root and whole grass, and in different plants, such as the leaves of Burm. F., stem drusus of affine hook. & Arn. Although the content of wogonin is the highest in Scutellaria baicalensis, the fact is that the yield is low and sometimes not enough to achieve industrial development.

    Product Description

Wogonin is a cell-permeable, orally active flavonoid with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. It inhibits COX-2 expression by blocking PMA-induced AP-1 activation  and suppresses tumor growth in human xenograft models (e.g., colon cancer) . Mechanistically, Wogonin induces G1 phase cell cycle arrest via CDK4/cyclin D1 inhibition  and promotes apoptosis by downregulating Mcl-1 through CDK9/RNA Pol II suppression .

In inflammatory models, Wogonin reduces IL-1β-induced cartilage degradation by inhibiting MMP-13 and upregulating COL2A1/ACAN expression . It also protects retinal cells from LPS-induced barrier dysfunction by modulating ZO-1/claudin-1 .

    Applications

    1. Cancer Research: Apoptosis induction in leukemia, sarcoma, and solid tumors .
    2. Inflammation Studies: COX-2 inhibition, NF-κB pathway modulation .
    3. Neuroprotection: Antioxidant effects in oxidative stress models .
    4. Metabolic Research: Regulation of cholesterol and lipid metabolism .
